HAPPY WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH!
Throughout the month of April we come together to raise awareness and gain acceptance for those with Autism. It's a time for people to focus on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase the understanding and acceptance of people with autism, fostering worldwide support and inspire a kinder, more inclusive world.
So we thought we’d share our experiences with autism. We are sharing our story because we are passionate about raising awareness and gaining acceptance and helping other families that may be struggling. And it’s ok to struggle, we all do!
Trust me I have my days crying and thinking far out how am I going to get through this... but you just do, because like any parent you do whatever you have to for your kids.
Our gorgeous and perfect Isla is 4. Everyday is a rollercoaster. We as a family have learnt to adapt and are still learning. We have gotten to know what works for Isla and we also know what really doesn’t. Life with Isla is forever changing - it can be loud, sleepless at times, messy (VERY, VERY MESSY), challenging, hopeful and also really special. It’s the little triumphs that can easily be taken for granted that we notice. She teaches us all every day. She has changed me, and I have grown as a person because of her. She makes me and those around her better! We wouldn’t change her for the world.
All the challenges all the struggles, all the judging eyes on you when people don’t understand, all these things are all worth it when you see her reach new milestones, you see her reach what at some points seemed impossible. She is so affectionate and one kiss, cuddle or I love you Mum and you know it’s all worth it.
For this World Autism Awareness Month I ask you all to be aware of what is going on with others, to not judge but offer empathy and a smile, to be inclusive and to realise no matter who we are we should all be treated with the same respect and dignity. Today and everyday take a moment to reflect on your words and your actions.
Let’s celebrate all those with Autism and how incredibly amazing and special they are!
What others are saying
“Before I started talking to Helen I was in a very dark place, I had no motivation to do anything, I was constantly putting myself down and doubting myself in every way possible. Helen has helped me in so many ways.
Assisted in making my doctors appointments, helping me with my strategies when I started to feel down again and making sure I was on track with my mental health care plan while still being there for me every step of the way. She has been an incredible support to get me to better myself and be in a much happier place.
I do not know where I would be today if it wasn’t for Helen’s constant help and support over the last year! I am so grateful to have had Helen by my side and I could not be more thankful for everything she has done for me.”

I’m sending you this email to highly commend your staff member, Jayne Cumberland.
I’ve worked with Jayne with a participant at Coomba Park. Jayne is hands on, very passionate about trying to achieve good outcomes for participants. Jayne talks to participants in a very non judgmental, supportive manner and participants feel at ease very quick. She is generally very interested in their welfare.
Jayne is also very supportive to support staff too. I know first hand.
She's a great asset to your company.
“I am a Social Worker and started working with Helen In 2017. She was my Team Leader and I was employed as a Support Facilitator. Helen taught me all about the National Disability Scheme (NDIS) and the role of Support Coordination.
