Oral sensory seeking, explained

It’s common to see children and adults with ASD or other intellectual disabilities regularly chewing or sucking on things. That’s what we call “oral sensory seeking”. For some, regular life doesn’t provide enough oral stimulation and we can struggle to process sensory information like touch, sound, and smell. That’s where chewable jewellery comes in. It’s a wonderful, safe way to get that sensory input many of us need but are unable to get through other methods.

Crafted with love by two special needs Mums, Chew Charms are more than just chews. They’re the result of personal experience and insights from speech therapists, occupational therapists, educators, and fellow parents and kids.

PENCIL TOPPERS

Pencil toppers are the perfect chewing tool for autism, ADHD, SPD, special needs or kids needing oral stimulation. Multiple Sensory Chew Textures – The chewy pencil toppers provide different oral motor input and assist with improved focus and calm. Shirt Savers are for kids who like to chew on their clothes, fingers, hair….anything really. They have been designed to loop through the buttonhole of a shirt. Just attach the Shirt Saver and forget about it until it needs to be replaced. They can go through the washing machine, dryer or dishwasher meaning you never actually have to take it off the shirt. Colours available allow you to match your shirt saver to your child’s school uniform.

NECKLACES

Sensory chew necklace is a lovely tool for calming and soothing oral sensory seekers who like something to chew. Each necklace is individual and offers different textures for added sensory stimulation. They come with a breakaway clasp and strung on a soft cord. The breakaway clasp improves safety by breaking open when large force is applied to it and the cord offers a soft non scratchy finish which will not irritate the wearers skin.
